Chapter 11 · 60 min
Communication Without Technology
Big idea
Without printing or broadcast, the message spread through repetition, memorable form and trusted messengers.
Session objectives
- ◆Test whether your core message is repeatable
- ◆Identify who actually carries information in your organization
- ◆Replace announcements with transmission
Opening question
What would three different people say we are focused on this year?
Discussion questions
- 1.How many times has our team heard our priorities stated this quarter?
- 2.Who do people actually believe when they hear news here?
- 3.Where does information get stuck?
- 4.Is our message memorable, or only accurate?
Group exercise
Repeat-back test
- 1The leader states this year's priority once, out loud
- 2Everyone writes it down from memory five minutes later
- 3Read the versions aloud and count how many match
- 4Rewrite the priority until it survives one hearing
Commitment before next session
Say the same priority sentence in three different settings this month, unchanged.
