Chapter 17 · 75 min
Preparing for Succession
Big idea
Jesus spent His final season preparing people to continue without Him. Succession was the plan, not the emergency.
Session objectives
- ◆Name a successor or successor pool for every key role
- ◆Identify knowledge that exists only in one head
- ◆Begin a written handover for the founder's role
Opening question
If a key leader left in 90 days, what breaks first?
Discussion questions
- 1.Which roles have no identified successor?
- 2.What do we know that has never been written down?
- 3.Are we preparing people, or just hoping they stay?
- 4.What would we need to start today for a smooth transition in two years?
Group exercise
Succession grid
- 1List every key role in the organization
- 2Beside each, name a ready, developing, or missing successor
- 3For every 'missing', name a candidate to begin developing
- 4Set a first development step per candidate with a date
Commitment before next session
Write one page of what only you know and give it to someone else.
