Chapter 4 · 75 min
The Twelve: Building a Leadership Team
Big idea
Jesus prayed all night, then chose twelve ordinary people and spent most of His time on them rather than the crowd.
Session objectives
- ◆Name the people who form your actual leadership core
- ◆Evaluate how your calendar reflects that core
- ◆Define the criteria you use when selecting leaders
Opening question
Who are the twelve people our mission depends on, by name?
Discussion questions
- 1.How were our current leaders chosen — by calling, convenience or availability?
- 2.How much of our week is spent with the few versus the many?
- 3.What character traits are non-negotiable for us?
- 4.Who are we developing that nobody would expect?
Group exercise
Name the twelve
- 1Each leader lists the people they are personally developing
- 2Mark each name: growing, stalled, or unclear
- 3Compare lists; find people on nobody's list and people on three lists
- 4Rebalance so every emerging leader has one clear developer
Commitment before next session
Schedule one recurring hour per month with each person you named for the next quarter.
