Chapter 6 · 60 min
The Seventy-Two: Scaling the Mission
Big idea
Jesus sent seventy-two ahead of Him, in pairs, to towns He intended to visit. Scale came from sending, not from doing more Himself.
Session objectives
- ◆Identify work only the founder currently does
- ◆Design a simple sending model with pairs and a debrief
- ◆Set the boundaries a sent team needs to succeed
Opening question
What would happen next week if our top leader were unavailable?
Discussion questions
- 1.What work are we hoarding that someone else could carry?
- 2.Why do we send people alone when pairs are stronger?
- 3.What instructions would a sent team need from us in writing?
- 4.How do we debrief people when they return?
Group exercise
Send two
- 1List tasks currently done by the senior leader
- 2Mark each: must keep, can teach, should have sent already
- 3Pick two 'should have sent' items and assign a pair to each
- 4Set the return date for the debrief now
Commitment before next session
Send one pair this month with a clear assignment and a scheduled debrief.

Facilitator note: open with the question, keep discussion to half the session, and end with every participant naming their commitment aloud.
