Observe

Jesus called the man to come forward, placing the human need at the center of the room. He did not allow the man to remain a passive object in the background of a theological debate.

He posed a question that reframed the issue from one of technical compliance to one of moral purpose: was the Sabbath for doing good or for doing harm? The crowd remained silent.

Mark records that Jesus looked at them with anger, grieved by their hardness of heart. He then told the man to stretch out his hand, and it was restored. The healing resolved the man's immediate need but intensified the conflict.

Pray

Ask for the wisdom to see the human need behind the procedure and the courage to align your actions with purpose.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity about what you may be overlooking.
  • Bring the people affected by this decision into prayer.

Discernment pause

A brief pause to slow the decision down.

  • What do I know to be true?
  • What am I assuming?
  • Who is affected?
  • What may be influencing me?
  • What would alignment require?
  • What deserves prayer before action?
