Personal reflection · Matthew 26:36–46

Observe
Jesus falls on His face and prays, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). He does not hide His desire for another path, but places it within a deeper commitment to the Father's will.
He finds His closest disciples sleeping. He then prays a second time, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” He finds them asleep again. He goes away and prays a third time, using the same words.
The manuscript notes that prayer is not an ornament on the decision but the place where it is endured. Having moved through anguish to surrender, Jesus rises and announces that His betrayer is at hand.

Pray
Ask for the honesty to face the cost of your mission and the strength to surrender your will to God's.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity about what you may be overlooking.
- Bring the people affected by this decision into prayer.
Discernment pause
A brief pause to slow the decision down.
- What do I know to be true?
- What am I assuming?
- Who is affected?
- What may be influencing me?
- What would alignment require?
- What deserves prayer before action?
