When the Important People Overlook Someone
Personal reflection · Mark 10:13–16

Observe
Mark’s Gospel notes that Jesus was “indignant” when He saw what was happening. His response is not a mild course correction but a strong, emotional reaction against the disciples' assumptions.
He uses the moment to redefine what matters. He not only commands the disciples to allow the children access but declares that one must become like a child to enter the kingdom. The very people being dismissed are made the model for everyone else.
Jesus’s welcome is personal and physical. Mark says He “took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.” He does not merely permit their presence; He actively and tenderly receives them.

Pray
Ask God to show you who your own systems of attention may be filtering out, and for the grace to welcome them.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity about what you may be overlooking.
- Bring the people affected by this decision into prayer.
Discernment pause
A brief pause to slow the decision down.
- What do I know to be true?
- What am I assuming?
- Who is affected?
- What may be influencing me?
- What would alignment require?
- What deserves prayer before action?
