Compassion in Action

Compassion Is More Than Feeling

Personal reflection · Mark 6:30–44

Observe

Seeing the crowd, Jesus “had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd” (Mark 6:34). His response is not irritation at the interruption, but teaching.

When the disciples suggest sending the people away for food, Jesus challenges them: “You give them something to eat.” Instead of focusing on what they lack, He asks what they have, and directs them to organize the crowd into groups.

He takes the available food, gives thanks, and gives it to the disciples to distribute. He enlists His followers to participate in a solution they believed was impossible, expanding their understanding of responsibility.

Discernment pause

A brief pause to slow the decision down.

  • What do I know to be true?
  • What am I assuming?
  • Who is affected?
  • What may be influencing me?
  • What would alignment require?
  • What deserves prayer before action?
