Observe

Mark reports that Jesus, moved with compassion, “stretched out his hand and touched him.” The Gospels show that Jesus could heal from a distance, so physical contact was not required for the cure. He touches the man before the healing is complete.

Jesus then responds directly to the man's question about his willingness: “I will; be clean.” After the man is healed, Jesus instructs him to follow the established religious protocol: show himself to the priest and make the prescribed offering to formalize his restoration to the community.

Pray

Ask God for the compassion to move toward the person others avoid.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity about what you may be overlooking.
  • Bring the people affected by this decision into prayer.

Discernment pause

A brief pause to slow the decision down.

  • What do I know to be true?
  • What am I assuming?
  • Who is affected?
  • What may be influencing me?
  • What would alignment require?
  • What deserves prayer before action?
