Leading by Example When Words Are Not Enough

Observe
Jesus insists on washing Peter’s feet, connecting the act to belonging: “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” He doesn't dismiss Peter's objection but reframes the service as essential to their relationship.
After washing their feet, Jesus returns to his place and explicitly affirms his identity: “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.” He does not deny his authority in order to serve; he states that his authority is precisely what makes his service such a powerful example.
The manuscript notes that Jesus performs this act knowing that Judas is about to betray him, Peter will deny him, and most will scatter. His service is not conditioned by the worthiness or loyalty of the people he is leading.

Pray
Ask for the grace to embody the principles you teach, especially when it is costly.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity about what you may be overlooking.
- Bring the people affected by this decision into prayer.
Discernment pause
A brief pause to slow the decision down.
- What do I know to be true?
- What am I assuming?
- Who is affected?
- What may be influencing me?
- What would alignment require?
- What deserves prayer before action?
